The Muhanga Teacher Training College opened in January 2010 and has very limited facilities for students. For example, there was no sports field available, even though the students have to give sports lessons to primary school children after their training. In addition, the presence of a sports field gives students the opportunity to keep moving. The majority of students live on campus, but there are no facilities to do anything after school.
The construction of the sports field has created an opportunity for the students of the Muhanga Teacher Training College to better prepare for their future profession as teachers. This means that sport can once again become a permanent part of the educational programme. After the civil war, there were too few teachers and facilities available to meet the demand and the education program was reduced to the basic subjects. Now that the country is under construction, the education program can be offered in full again.
