I’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Hanze University Foundation with its 10 year anniversary! As Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, we are very happy with the work of the Foundation. The Foundation connects people throughout the world, through higher education. Our staff and students discover other countries and cultures through the many African and Asian staff and students who visit Groningen and Hanze UAS. In turn, they return home with new knowledge and skills that they can apply in their community!

The Foundation is supported by Hanze UAS in various ways. Every year many of our staff help the Foundation by donating an amount of the Christmas gift they receive from the Hanze UAS. This really helps celebrate the Christmas spirit during the giving season. Students also work on assignments that help the Foundation further. The fundraising highlight of the year is the annual Inspiration Breakfast that takes place with local companies and is organized by student volunteers. It’s a ‘gezellig’ event that sometimes includes an African dance or drum workshop as well as information about the completed and ongoing projects.

In short, the Foundation connects people and brings the rest of the world closer. It helps where it can and it shares where it is needed most. It’s Hanze UAS in a nutshell: Share your talent, move the world!

Henk Pijlman has been the Chairman of the Executive Board at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen since 2004, and a member since 2000. He is an important proponent of the Hanze University Foundation and has followed and supported its developments since its inception.
