This summer, 10 Hanze students traveled to Tanzania to work intensively with Tanzanian students in a 2-week summer school, organized in collaboration with the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), a strategic partner of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. The Hanze students paid their own travel expenses and the Hanze University Foundation funded the UDSM's participation.

A total of 2 Summer schools took place, 1 in the field of Energy & Business and 1 in the field of Communication & Marketing. The Summer schools are organized by IBS and SCMI teachers in collaboration with the Hanze Center for Development Cooperation.

The assignment for the Communication & Marketing Summer School came from the Tanzania Dutch Energy Capacity Building (TDECB) project, sponsored by the Dutch government and implemented by the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Twente. Students were asked to provide ideas for a communication campaign to encourage more girls to choose technical studies. Under the guidance of Hanze teachers, students worked together in mixed intercultural groups. After 2 weeks, each group presented a campaign plan to a professional jury. The jury consisted of representatives of the Tanzanian partner institutions participating in the TDECB.

Due to the intensive cooperation between the students, the Hanze and UDSM students have had the opportunity to experience cultural differences in both life and studying.

The video below was made by Hanze student Sander Blum, to summarize his experiences in Tanzania:
