Unify 4 Uganda

Amount: € 49700

Location: Abilonino, Uganda

National Instructors College Abilonino (NICA)

NICA trains teachers for all technical schools in Uganda. The school is located approximately 200 km north of the capital Kampala and offers various 2-year teacher training courses. Approximately 400 students graduate each year and go on to work as technology teachers throughout the country.

NICA is located in the former conflict area in Northern Uganda. The 'Lord's Resistance Army', led by Joseph Kony, plundered villages and children were kidnapped. As a result of the years of struggle, many young people grew up in refugee camps and had little or no opportunity to learn a trade. Many technical schools have also been neglected and have hardly any properly trained staff. NICA ensures that the technical schools are again provided with well-trained teachers, so that there is a future perspective for this group of young people.

Hanze Alumnus Jorem Adutu and director of NICA, is committed to the further development of the school and therefore also the region in which the school is located. NICA graduates spread the acquired knowledge across the technical schools in the country and in particular in their own region. Investing in NICA therefore has an enormous impact on the economic development of Northern Uganda

The project consists of 4 parts:

  1. Technical and didactic training of teachers
  2. Classroom layout
  3. Computer lab for students
  4. Construction of sports facilities for resident students

Total project amount €50.000
