Sarah is a second year, female, certificate in hospital support and maintenance student at North Coast Medical Training College in Kenya. Her mother is a peasant farmer which helps with her upkeep but she is normally not able to contribute much to her fees. Her brother is a motor bike rider and he normally pays for her school fees, together with her requesting for study loans. Although he has tried, she had to defer half a year due to lack of fees and had re-joined the class behind her, just before the COVID-19 pandemic set in, when they had managed to pay for the outstanding fees. She also benefited recently from the smartphone support.
She is quite a reserved but always smiling student and makes friends easily. She has passed her previous exams and is always ready to learn and explore new ideas, she puts effort and shows commitment in her work. Despite her struggles before she had access to the phone she would still regularly try to contact her teachers for consultation.
